In CMake, a standard way to build the "debug mode" of a project is to run the command `cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug /path/to/source` (refer [the CMake FAQ](http://www.cmake.org/Wiki/CMake_FAQ)). With the current CMakeLists.txt, this only adds the `-g` compiler flag. In my opinion, we should modify CMakeLists.txt to define the `DEBUG` macro when compiling in "debug mode", since it is used in multiple places in the library.
